Classification of arhar :-
There are two types.
1. Cajanus Indicus Var. Bicolor :-
Late maturity variety, yellow flower, pods dark coloured each with the four to five seed.
2. Cajanus Indicus Var. Flavus :-
Early maturity variety, smaller plants, yellow flower, plain pods with two to three seed.

- N :- 20-25 kg/ha
- P :- 50-65 kg/ha
- K :- 20-35 kg/ha
- Pigeon pea commonly known as biological plough (more than 150 cm).
- Seed of arhar are also rich in iron and iodine.
- Inflorescence of pigeon pea axillary raceme.
- Pigeon pea is a cross pollinated, C3, tap rooted, short day plant.
- Protein content of pigeon pea :- 25%.
- Harvest index of arhar :- 19% (Very Low)
